Lack of leadership. The blame game. Thanks NU!

It has become all too fashionable to beat up the big guy. So much easier to blame and not lead. And while Wall Street, Corporate America and the “top 1%” have their own issues, I can comfortably say they weren’t the one’s that solely got us into this country’s mess. Let’s face it…our “leaders” did.

So now we have “Alfred”, that great October storm, and once again we have people blaming and not leading. Politicians on their grandstand telling everyone how CL&P and WMECO just can’t quite seem to get things right. They blame them for the lack of attention to “their town” and for everyone’s woes. They call for investigations and hearings (all things that don’t fix my electricity!). Problem is, whether they (the politicians) are right or wrong, this is not the time for the blame game. Quite frankly this is the time to do something that our politicians very seldom do…LEAD!

So instead of getting hooked into the blame game (which does us no good), let’s take a step back and appreciate the endless effort of those people that are trying to get us back on our feet. Let’s do something our politicians are uncomfortable doing (unless it’s politically correct to do so)…thanking “the corporate giant”. The giant in this case is Northeast Utilities (and to a lesser extent, United Illuminating) and all of the other companies that have come to CT and Western Mass’ aid. Say thank you to the utility workers for the countless hours they’ve worked to get us back on our feet. To those workers that have families, in households without power, they left behind for the common good.

Like any great team, no effort is flawless. Yes, there were/are mistakes made. So, “after the game”, we’ll all take a step back and see what we could have done better..ALL of US! But for now, here’s a note to our so called “leaders”…your job is to unite…not divide. Your job is to lead…not just blame. And while we’re all in the middle of this mess (yes, I too am without electricity) we don’t need the blame game. We need SOLUTIONS. We need LEADERSHIP.

Keep smiling!

Mark
